See Canada’s Most Famous Landmarks Drawn As Anime

DARREN ABOGADO

By October, Canadians are expecting the inevitable to come very soon—a cold and harsh winter. But this video just might entice you to throw on some long johns and a parka and explore all that Canada has to offer, even when it’s -25 degrees outside.

Destination Canada recently worked with renowned Japanese anime director Makoto Shinkai to create this 30-second spot highlighting the most beautiful sights of a Canadian winter.

Best known for the film Your Name, which was met with overwhelming success both in and outside of Japan, Shinkai’s video shows a couple exploring our country’s most famous landmarks. They visit Banff, shop at Granville Island Public Market and take in natural wonders like Niagara Falls and the Northern Lights. They even experience the kindness of locals after almost falling while skating in the ice rink at Nathan Phillips Square.

Although this video is targeted to entice Japanese travelers, it definitely does a good job at inspiring locals to hop on a flight and explore our country as well.
