There are wine tastings and then there are WestJet Wine Tastings. What is the difference you ask? These events aren’t for your grandparents. The WestJet Wine Tastings are a multi-room, multi-winery tasting, buzzing with live music, healthy food and a safe ride home (aka everyone can have a glass of wine or two!). And, with more than 60 BC wineries all in one place, this chic urban venue sees over 500 people a night flowing through a series of rooms upstairs and down filled with opportunities to try the best of BC wines all under one roof.
The WestJet Wine Tastings are continuously sold-out events at the spring, fall and winter Okanagan Wine Festivals and sees the young folks flock to attend. What attracts the younger demographic? The fact that this event is a more of a wine party than a tasting and it is in beautiful Kelowna, BC. Not only does Kelowna have an awesome downtown for shopping and eating out, but Lake Okanagan is a social hot spot in the summer months.
How to get there:
WestJet flies non-stop to Kelowna from Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto.
Where to stay:
Enjoy your stay in Kelowna at the Manteo Resort. This hotel is on the shore of Okanagan Lake and has its own private beach, a gym, 3 pools, a movie theatre, a putting green and a tennis court. Want something downtown? Check out Boutique Hotel Eldorado which features cork floors and floor-to-ceiling windows with lake or mountain views. The hotel also has an indoor pool, a hot tub, lounge/bar serving farm-to-table food and a rooftop deck. This is the place to stay if you have a group that wants to go out after the wine tastings.
When to taste wine:
Three wine festivals are held each year: the fall festival in October and spring celebration in May both feature events throughout Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley while the winter festival in January is a smaller affair held at Sun Peaks Resort. The WestJet Wine Tasting events are two nights during each wine festival. Check out the up coming wine tasting at Kelowna’s Rotary Centre for the Arts on April 29th. Find tickets and more information here.
What else is there to do:
In addition to the great selection of Canadian wines and vineyards in the Kelowna area, visitors can enjoy a four-season destination with everything from beaches to skiing and spas. Why not spend the day enjoying the snow at Big White Ski Resort, which is located just 56km outside of Kelowna. Skiing not for you? Head to Sparkling Hill Resort & Spa to enjoy an overnight spa experience that is truly unique and only 46km outside of Kelowna.
