WestJet Gave Fort McMurray Families A Christmas Miracle

After one of the hardest years the Fort McMurray, Alberta community faced, WestJet surprised hundreds of residents with a special Christmas miracle by throwing them all a holiday party and gifting them with free flights.

Earlier this year in May, a huge wildfire swept through the Fort Mac community, damaging over 2,400 buildings and homes, leaving many Albertans homeless.

After a challenging seven months, some members of the community felt that their first Christmas since the incident wouldn’t be the same. Many families expressed that they were worried they’d be forgotten during the holiday season.

To bring a little holiday cheer, WestJet invited the community out for a Snowflake Soiree: an evening of food and drink, music and crafts—but those weren’t the only treats party goers received.

Attendees were invited to sing carols outside when tiny parachutes started raining from the sky. Inside each little package was a memento Christmas ornament—and a WestJet ticket!
