Visual Artist, Davey Gravy, Gives Us A Hip Hop Inspired Tour Of Calgary

We asked hip-hop head and visual artist, Dave Lieske (@davey_gravy) to take a walk through Calgary to show Far And Wide some of his favourite spots in the city in signature Davey Gravy style: Awesome photos paired with with fitting rap lyrics. Location: Peace Bridge
Info: The Peace Bridge is a pedestrian bridge crossing the Bow River in Calgary connecting Downtown Calgary with the Bow River pathway and Kensington area. It was completed in 2012 and connects Downtown Calgary with the Bow River pathway and Sunnyside community. Built by famed Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava, the bridge is used everyday by thousands of commuters and offers a great view of downtown and the Bow River.
Lyric:  “All we want in this life is peace, prosperity and a little paper, objects that seem greater but I’m sure well overcome when we illin on a drum.”

Location: Less 17
Info: Less 17 opened shop in 2014 with the goal of offering rare goods to shoppers in Calgary. Today the shop houses 50 brands from around the world and offers a distinct blend of menswear, footwear, and accessories. Beyond clothes, Less 17 also houses an art gallery, “Secret Eight Project Space” which displays bimonthly installations.

Location: Monogram Coffee
Info: A national award-winning group with over 20 years of experience in sourcing, roasting and serving coffee. Monogram’s space and coffee make it one of the better coffee haunts in Calgary.
Lyric:  “Man I make that paper stack up at my coffee shop, one hit and the’ll be back to the coffee shop”

Location: The Livery Shop
Info: Calgary jewellery company CoutuKitsch teamed up with Camp Brand Goods to open a shop in Inglewood within an old barn that’s converted into an open-market style store. They call this space, “The Livery.” Carrying handcrafted jewelry and Camp Brand clothing in addition to food products and fashion accessories makes The Livery a must-visit if you’re in the city.

Album: The Hall Of Game (1996)

Location: Bow Tower
Info: The second tallest office tower in Calgary also features a renowned public art installation. The 12-metre tall sculpture, titled, “Wonderland,” was created by Barcelona-based designer Jaume Plensa.

Location: Wise And Wright
Info: Flavour and health don’t have to exist separately. Wise And Wright brings both with healthy bowls and salads crated with delicious and healthy ingredients.
