5 Must-Try Restaurants In Québec City

If eating is one of my favourite sports, can I call myself a foodie? Let’s just say that on the eating front, foodie or not, I know my spots in Québec City. For this trip, I decided to get out of my comfort zone and discover new places. Among the ones I tried, these five took my taste buds for a delicious ride that was definitely worth the trip.

1. La Buche

Address: 49 Rue Saint Louis, Ville de Québec, QC G1R 3Z2
Phone: (418) 694-7272
Menu: restolabuche.com
Hours: 10:30AM–10:30PM

This restaurant is literally a modern-day sugar shack. As soon as I set foot in the place, I felt an urge to dance a rigodon (kind of like Québec’s version of square-dancing). Everything is thought out for patrons to experience a truly Québecois experience, with a twist. It’s like your grandmother’s cooking, but next level (no offence, Granny!)

Two Words: Bottomless Mimosas. Best brunch hands down. Photo: La Buche

2. Le Hobbit

Address: 700 Rue Saint-Jean, Ville de Québec, QC G1R 1R1
Hours: 8AM–10PM

This little restaurant on Saint-Jean street is particularly adorable and really worth a trip if you ask me. Not only does it feature a warm and cozy atmosphere, but I was also impressed with the attentive and courteous service. To be honest, I’ve rarely experienced such quality service! On the food front, the menu is quite varied and features options to suit all tastes and budgets, from burgers to tartare, and from fish to red meat. Everything I tasted was SUPER well prepared!

All around amazing. Totally recommend!

3. Le Lapin Sauté

Address: 52 Rue du Petit Champlain, Ville de Québec, QC G1K 4H4
Hours: 11AM–10PM

This is SUCH a cute spot. I have to admit, I am absolutely the type of person to judge a book by its cover. So when I landed in front of this restaurant in the Petit-Champlain neighbourhood, I was already a fan. The best part? My first impressions held up to the taste test! The magic ingredient here, you guessed it, is the rabbit. It’s really the best place to discover the 1001 ways to enjoy rabbit, but also to discover a menu filled with local flavours. I was there for the weekend brunch and I particularly enjoyed the eggs benedict with rabbit confit! Were you thinking of heading there for lunch or dinner? Expect to discover over 20 local dishes and several Québec-inspired alcoholic drinks.

The fresh squeezed OJ is so good.

4. Cochon Dingue

Address: 46 Boulevard Champlain, Ville de Québec, QC G1K 4E8, Canada
Hours: 7AM–10PM

A visit to Québec City isn’t complete without a stop at Cochon Dingue, which has become a veritable institution over the last 30 years. This bistro-style restaurant is known for its breakfast and I must say I appreciated the variety the menu had to offer. It featured all of the usual suspects, alongside also some less traditional dishes. I decided to go all-in and order their famous breakfast poutine with home fries, sausage, ham, chopped onions, hollandaise sauce, cheese curds and a fried egg. And whoa, I had a little trouble breathing afterwards, but it was so worth it!

Who knew breakfast poutine would taste so good.

5. Casse-Crêpe Breton

Address: 1136 Rue Saint-Jean, Ville de Québec, QC G1R 1S4

The atmosphere in this restaurant is casual and the menu isn’t extravagant, but their traditional thin crepes are DE-LI-CI-OUS!! I loved that you can choose all of your favourite toppings to create a personal crepe. The only challenging part is choosing between salty or sweet. It’s a tough choice, but I think the trick is to go salty and drown the whole thing in real maple syrup. You’ll thank me later.

Something for everyone.
