TIFF 2017: Watch This Intense Rap Battle That Went Down On The Streets Of Toronto

NEIL KARASSIK

In case you’re living in an alternate reality—what is this, Twin Peaks?—you should already know that the Toronto International Film Festival is presently in full swing. Between September 7-17, the city will be flooded with movie stars, industry types, film critics, film lovers and, of course, FILMS.

You don’t have to purchase a movie ticket and wait in a long line to get in on the action—but we recommend you do because it’s fun as heck. For the rest of this weekend, a portion of King Street West has been transformed into a mini TIFF mecca filled with tasty food vendors (though we have our own reccos), stealthy selfie opportunities and also some free live entertainment like this showdown between Toronto-born battle rapper-turned-screenwriter Alex Larsen (aka Kid Twist) and American battle rapper, Madness, which drew a large crowd on the corner of John and Wellington on Thursday, September 7.

The reason this battle occurred was to promote Midnight Madness’ opening night film, Bodied, which Larsen wrote and, NBD, Eminem produced. In the event you haven’t already guessed what the film is about, according to TIFF’s synopsis, it’s “a satirical exploration of the world’s most artistically brutal sport—battle rapping.”

Check out the trailer below and try to catch one of the film’s subsequent screenings on September 9 and September 14. Tickets are available here—what are you waiting for, wimp?!?
