Do Toronto Date Night Like Selena Gomez And The Weeknd

photo credit: etalk / sean o’neill

We may not be able to date celebrities, but we can do date night like them. Toronto-native The Weeknd showed his new flame Selena Gomez all around the city, highlighting the best spots for lovers on a night out on the town.

Get lost in love in The 6ix like The Weeknd and Selena (Welena? Seleeknd?) with help from our handy guide below:

What To Do

Shopping in Yorkville

Head to Toronto’s swankiest hood for the best shopping in the city. The Weeknd and Selena stopped by Hermes and Holt Renfrew, but you can also pop into any of the designer flagships that have made their home in Yorkville.

Visit Ripley’s Aquarium

Take a page out of The Weeknd and Selena’s books (who took one out of AubRih’s) and venture under the sea to check out Ripley’s Aquarium. The aquarium boasts 16,000 marine animals, including sharks, turtles and rays. Don’t forget to snap the oh-so-necessary ‘gram in front of the jellyfish tank before you leave.

Watch the Raptors play at the Air Canada Centre

A night full of basketball, cheering and ACC concessions are all the makings of a perfect date, so if you’re in town when the Raps are playing, be sure to try and score tickets. We can’t promise a Weeknd/Selena sighting, but we can promise some good ball—the Raps are currently ranked fourth in the Eastern Conference.

Catch a flick at Cineplex Yonge-Dundas Square

You may not get to stunt like The Weeknd and rent out an entire theatre (that’ll set you back a cool $1,500), but you can still enjoy the luxuries of VIP movie screenings, which includes comfy leather seats, in-seat dining service and a menu that’s decked out with a full bar list.

Where To Eat

668 King St W

Treat yourself to upscale sushi at this King West resto. To dine like The Weeknd and Selena, try the wagyu steak, shrimp and a la carte sushi.

Thompson Diner
550 Wellington St W

For round-the-clock craving satisfactions, head to the 24-hour hot spot located on the ground floor of the boutique hotel. Get classic diner staples like all-day breakfast and burgers, but be sure to try their famous mac and cheese—it has cured pancetta and truffle oil.

Harbour Sixty Steakhouse
60 Harbour St

Harbour Sixty is widely recognized for serving the biggest, tastiest and priciest steaks in the city. If you’ve got a hankering to drop a few bills on dinner, this is the place to do it.

Where To Stay

While we can’t know for sure where couple lodged for the weekend, but lovers looking for a getaway should consider these options:

The Thompson Hotel
550 Wellington St W

The Thompson is a no-brainer—it’s right above the delicious 24-hour diner and in the heart of the city’s  trendy King West neighbourhood. Restaurants, art galleries and vibrant nightlife are all a walking distance from this boutique hotel. And you can’t beat the Thompson’s view of the Toronto skyline either.

The Hazleton Hotel
 118 Yorkville Ave

Known to be a celebrity favourite (especially around TIFF), The Hazleton Hotel is just a  few steps away from where The Weeknd and Selena shopped, making it another location the two could have bunked.

188 University Ave, Toronto

At the epicenter of downtown Toronto is the luxurious Shangri-La. If David Chang’s NYC-export Momofuku isn’t enough to entice The Weeknd and Selena (or anyone else for that matter) to stay, then the 9000-sq ft health centre on the fifth floor might.
