As our nation’s capital, Ottawa is full of culture and national heritage. But did you know that Ottawa is also home to a booming craft beer scene? It’s true! Within Ottawa’s city limits, you’ll find more than 25 craft beer breweries and of course, cool places to enjoy a pint. But with so many great places to discover, how do you know where to start? Lucky for you, we’ve put together a little list of craft beer spots you don’t want to miss.

Beyond the Pale Brewing Company

Where: 5 Hamilton Ave. North

What: One of Ottawa’s first smaller craft breweries, Beyond the Pale is celebrating its fourth anniversary this year. Located just west of Ottawa’s downtown core, stroll into Beyond the Pale where you can sample some of the delicious beers before you buy them. Here, you’ll find four regular beers (Rye Guy, Party Animal, Pink Fuzz and The Darkness) as well as special seasonal brews. Not too familiar with the craft beer scene yet? Don’t worry. Beyond the Pale’s friendly brewers are very knowledgeable and can help you find something you’ll enjoy.

You need to try: If you want something with a little bit of kick, opt for the cleverly named Party Animal. A strong and unique 9 percent brew, Party Animal is a Belgian Imperial India Pale Ale.

Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co.

Where: 10 Terry Fox Dr., Vankleek Hill

What: Though it’s in Ottawa’s outskirts, Beau’s is worth a visit as this is where Ottawa’s craft beer movement was born! Beau’s actually helped Beyond the Pale grow, lending equipment to the small brewery when it needed to expand. Stroll up to the rustic bar to sample different types of beer, take a tour of the brewery and check out the cozy Beau’s merchandise. This unique, family-owned business is behind the success of several smaller local craft breweries.

You need to try: Beau’s Lug Tread – A flagship beer, Beau’s Lug Tread is a lagered ale and is also the official beer of 2017 and of Canada’s 150th anniversary!

CRAFT Beer Market

Where: 975 Bank St.

What: Whether you’re new to the craft beer scene or you’re a seasoned connoisseur, this is a spot that you don’t want to miss. Located in Ottawa’s new and trendy Lansdowne area, CRAFT Beer Market offers 100 beers on tap. That’s a lot of beers! This is a great place to discover what you like.

You need to try:  Everything! They have such a wide selection you can’t go wrong.

Want to visit several breweries without having to drive? No problem. Just hop aboard the Brew Donkey Brewery Tour bus. Running on weekends all year long, these 5-hour tours stop by Ottawa-area breweries, brewpubs and craft beer bars. And here’s the best part… Delicious craft beer samples are provided all along the way!
