Ring In The New Year At The Biggest NYE Bashes Across The Country

Before we flourish in the new beginning of 2017, we have to give 2016 the send off it deserves. Because while we’re saying bye to 12 months of both good and bad, at midnight we’re also kicking off a huge millstone year for the country—2017 marks our 150th  anniversary of confederation. Ring in the sesquicentennial in style at one of these killer NYE parties.

You can head to the Old Port for outdoor skating and a family-friendly NYE experience, but if you’re looking to dance all the troubles of 2016 away, look no further than Montreal’s club scene. This city is overflowing with new DJ talent (just ask Polaris Prize winner and Montreal local Kaytranada), and you can get a taste at clubs like Artgang, where local talent will be spinning all night. Get tickets here.

Quebec City

If clubs aren’t your style, head over to Quebec City and celebrate a French-style New Year’s Eve. Each year, old Quebec is transformed into a Christmas village with lights and decorations, making the time around New Year’s perfect for exploring the historic city. But you can still get your EDM fix without the crowded club at the Grand Allée, a huge outdoor party with bars,  heated terraces and even a Ferris wheel, all headlined by French DJ Madeon.

Niagara Falls

Canada’s largest free New Year’s Eve event goes down each year at Niagara Falls. Thousands of party-goers show up for a winter firework display and a night full of live performances. This year’s lineup includes Sam Roberts Band, Serena Ryder and High Valley.

You knew the country’s capital would pull out all the stops to ring in 2017, also known as Canada’s historic 150th birthday.  Starting at 8:17 p.m. (or 20:17), the capital will be lit up, with fireworks going off in the downtown core and on Parliament Hill. The night will be closed out by pop queen Carly Rae Jepsen, shortly followed by the countdown to 2017. More deets here.

Whatever kind of party you’re looking for this year—Vancouver’s probably got it. Celebrate outdoors by the waterfront and watch fireworks, live performances from The New Pornographers, Wintersleep and more, and treat yourself to some good grub from one of the 19 food trucks that’ll be there. Or, head to the True North NYE party (tickets here) at the Vancouver Convention Centre and dance all night to performances by The Sheepdogs, Yukon Blonde and more.

Halifax’s New Year’s Eve bash goes down at the Grande Parade. The Strumbellas and Ria Mae headline the free outdoor event, which also boasts the largest fireworks display of Atlantic Canada.
