Catching The Last Of Winter: Ice Fishing In The Yukon

Winter’s technically over, but there’s still a chance to catch up on some icy fun, and no better place to do it than the Yukon. Many winter pastimes require a lot of effort—hiking through snow, skiing, driving a dogsled—but there’s one activity that requires nothing more than warm clothing, a chair, some drinks and snacks, and a lot of patience: ice fishing!

Yukon has some of Canada’s best fishing for trout, and the entire territory is riddled with secluded lakes and winding rivers, accessible by car or snowmobile. Check out some of these outfitters who’ll make sure you have an amazing experience, and maybe even catch some fresh fish.

Up North Adventures

You’ll be picked up in downtown Whitehorse and taken to one of the pristine lakes in the area, where the guides will drill a hole in the ice, set you up with your rod and bait, get a fire going, and pass hot drinks around. They’ll even cook up the fish you catch right there, for the freshest lunch experience ever.

Duration: 3-4 hours
Includes: Guide, fishing rod, tackle and lures, snacks, warm drinks, hotel pick-up and drop off (warm winter clothing available if needed)
Price: $165.00 per person (based on 2-person minimum booking)
