Some people like pizza, others are after burgers but for the fish and chips lovers out there finding the best is an endless search. Don’t worry balsamic vinegar loving friends… we are here to help! Introducing: John’s Lunch.

The restaurant’s seaside setting means that a fresh catch can be in the fryer and on your plate in no time. That combination of the just-caught fish and the diner’s batter recipe meet to make pure, deep-fried magic. They serve 27kg of the stuff daily. This is why:
The speciality is the haddock, but John’s also does up incredible plates of deep-fried shrimp, clams, scallops, and calamari. All of which go really well with one of their milkshakes (or a beer from Dartmouth’s own North Brewing Company).
The vibe at John’s is a classic, hole-in-the-wall diner with a choice between swivelling counter stools and retro vinyl-upholstered booths to sit at. Fotis Fatouros and Stratos Baltas have owned the shop since 1988 and have acquired a massive collection of foreign currency from travellers who’ve stopped by for some of their famous seafood. So if anyone tells you it’s crazy to travel cross-country for fish and chips, show them this photo:
