Catching Up With Professional Storm Chaser Ricky Forbes

You’ve likely already seen Ricky Forbes on Tornado Hunters, but there is a lot more to him than chasing adrenaline and tornados. With a passion for adventure, the outdoors, and adrenaline, Ricky naturally has a massive interest in action sports; he freestyle snowboards, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, and skydives, in addition to chasing mega storms.

When you get to see, feel, and hear things no one gets to see, like the biggest baddest storms on the planet, and then share those things, that is pretty cool.

In fact, it wasn’t until five years ago when a friend put him in contact with some storm chasers looking for a driver that he truly discovered his passion for seeing and capturing the perfect storm. From that point forward he was hooked on the thrill, but also the challenge of capturing mother nature with his videography and photography.

While Ricky calls Saskatoon home, many might not know is that he actually grew up in two small towns in Saskatchewan, Martinsville and Shellbrook. He credits these communities for shaping his identity and who he is. From the sense of community to the farm culture of hard-work and embrace of a challenge, it was through these people and these communities that he forged his sense of resilience. And it was in these same small towns where Forbes developed his love for action sports, hanging out and building jumps and ramps with his friends.

Obviously Ricky was thrilled when recently given the opportunity to host an episode of Far And Wide in his home province of Saskatchewan. If you’ve been to the “Paris of the Prairies” you know how awesome the city is. With a bustling music scene, up-and-coming culinary landscape, incredible people and epic scenery, Ricky was excited to showcase his city and all it has to offer.

Getting to show Camille the city that I love was amazing. She had no idea what to expect and I know that she was pleasantly surprised. That felt great.

And while he raves about some of the restaurants visited during the episode (Odd Couple, Ayden Kitchen And Bar, The Hollows, Little Grouse On The Prairie, and Drift Cafe) Ricky admits he also enjoys relaxing with friends and having a drink on the many amazing pub patios of Saskatoon, such as the Yard & Flagon, O’Sheas and The Spadina Freehouse.
