Thanks to the inter-webs, it’s now easier than ever to start your own company or work remotely. But sometimes the actual “working from home” is the toughest part. As a freelance travel journalist, I am always searching for new places to get me into the grove as working out of office.

To help you connect with other freelancers across Canada, here are some of the best cafes to work remotely at all across Canada:



Forth embodies the collaborative nature of the creative class in Canada by combining Dogwood Coffee Canada, Lisa Kehler Art+Projects and Tipping Canoe together. Drop by for one of their signature lattes and get over your mid afternoon slump with one of their delicious menu items.

Drift Sidewalk Café & Vista Lounge

Transporting you from the Riversdale neighbourhood in Saskatoon to sunny California, Drift Sidewalk Café & Vista Lounge is a multi-level restaurant with tables and a rooftop lounge giving freelancers all the room they need to creatively spread out and set up for the day.

Fat Fox

The Fat Fox is a new joint in Yellowknife that mixes rustic wooden décor with lush vintage furniture making it the perfect place to curl up and code. Their menu is a mix of Mediterranean, East Indian and Cypriot-style dishes to fit all dietary restrictions.

Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters

The historic Simmons Building joined together some of the most creative culinary talents in Calgary into a concept café where Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters, Sidewalk Citizen and Charcut are all located in this former mattress factory to work symbiotically to create a hub for creative entrepreneurs to flourish.

Set in a beautiful heritage building in James Bay, Victoria dating all the back to 1889, Nourish Kitchen & Cafe has a menu filled with simple and healthy food to nourish your mind and body while you work away to meet your deadlines.

Au Bonnet D’Âne

In the historic Quebec City, the freelance community meets at Au Bonnet D’Âne for an espresso and a freshly cooked meal located just north of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.  Their daily menu shifts from breakfast, to lunch with table service in between. Be sure to also swing by during their 5 a 7 happy hour.

Fixed Coffee

Fixed Coffee is a bakery and café in downtown St. John’s. Partnering with the only independent new bookstore in the city, Brooken Books, the seats are filled with creative individuals looking for a java boost to help them through the busy workday.

The Courage Bar

Tucked away in between Toronto and Ottawa, Prince Edward County has quickly become to new hub for creative types to retreat during the warmer months. The Courage Bar has an inventive menu set with the perfect backdrop for all of your “office of the day” Instagram posts.
